La saison des sakura en fleur est-elle la saison la plus fréquentée par les touristes étrangers?

Pas si sûr lorsqu’on regarde de près les chiffres du tourisme au Japon. Retour sur 20 ans de tourisme inbound au pays du soleil levant (sources JNTO, JATA).

31.882 millions de touristes étrangers en 2019.

Avant la pandémie, le Japon avait accueilli 31 882 049 touristes étrangers en 2019, un chiffre record après une croissance fulgurante entamée depuis 2011.

Longtemps déficitaire, le tourisme inbound nippon (flux entrants), a connu son premier tournant en 2015, l’année où la tendance s’est définitivement inversée avec un solde positif d’environ 3.523 millions d’entrées: cette année-là pour la première fois, les arrivées des visiteurs étrangers avaient dépassé les départs des Japonais vers l’étranger (19 737 409 arrivées contre 16 213 789 départs ).

En 20 ans, le Japon a accueilli un total de 227 247 029 touristes étrangers.

De loin, les touristes asiatiques (Asie du Nord et du Sud-est) sont les plus nombreux à visiter le Japon: 182 112 256 (80,1% du total).

  • 3. Les Européens: 17 630 435 (7,8%)
  • 4. Les Océaniens: 6 011 896 (2,6%)
