En amont du salon du Bourget inauguré hier, la compagnie aérienne japonaise a reçu sa première livraison d’AIRBUS A350-900 le vendredi 14 juin. C’est la première fois que la compagnie nationale japonaise passe commande auprès de l’avionneur européen depuis sa création en 1951.
Longtemps la stratégie de la JAL s’est confondue avec la politique du gouvernement japonais d’après-guerre, qui en vertu de l’alliance nippo-américaine de l’après-guerre, a systématiquement privilégié les Etats-Unis comme partenaires commerciaux. Ainsi pendant plus de soixante dix ans la compagnie nationale japonaise s’était fournie auprès de l’américain Boeing.
La décision de passer commande auprès d’AIRBUS a été prise en 2013 par l’actuel président M. Yoshiharu UEKI. L’A 350 doit remplacer progressivement les 46 Boeing 777 que la compagnie exploite actuellement. L’appareil européen répond précisément aux critères de sécurité, de qualité et de service après-vente exigés par JAL. De plus sa mise sur le marché coïncidait avec l’arrivée à échéance de partenariat signé avec Boeing.
Le premier A 350-900 aux couleurs de la grue a atterrit sur la piste de l’aéroport de Haneda avant d’être conduit dans le hangar de la compagnie. M.UEKI avait pris place à bord et voyagé depuis Toulouse. Il a affirmé sa satisfaction à la descente de l’appareil devant les médias réunis pour célébrer publiquement cette journée historique : « le choix que nous avons fait 6 ans plus tôt était le bon ».
L’appareil livré entrera en service à partir de 1er septembre et assurera dans un premier temps les principales liaisons domestiques à commencer par la liaison Tokyo-Fukuoka. Il est doté d’un total de 369 sièges, dont 12 en classe première, 94 en Class J (classe intermédiaire) et 263 en classe économique.
JAL a commandé 18 exemplaires d’A 350-900, 13 autres exemplaires d’A350-1000, sa version longue. Des options seraient posées pour 25 appareils supplémentaires. La compagnie n’a pas divulgué le montant total des achats mais au prix catalogue, les commandes fermes pour les 31 avions devraient atteindre près de 1000 milliards JPY (1.8 milliards EUR).
Le directeur de la filiale de maintenance du groupe JAL M.Yuji AKASAKA rassure tous les acteurs impliqués dans ce nouveau projet : « Nous appréhendions la gestion de ces appareils inconnus, et savions que la tâche sera ardue. Or aujourd’hui j’ai la certitude qu’ils remplissent nos exigences en matière de sécurité et de maintenance. Je suis confiant quant à leur réussite commerciale à partir de septembre ».
JAL a frôlé la faillite en 2010 dont les raisons sont largement imputées à la mauvaise gestion. Le choix d’Airbus reflèterait largement le plan de sauvetage initié dix ans plus tôt par M.Inamori KAZUO (entrepreneur, fondateur de KYOCERA et actuel président honoraire de JAL) appelé à la rescousse par le conseil d’administration. Des voix pourtant, s’élèvent pour rappeler que l’A350 conçus pour les vols longs courriers n’est pas adapté pour les vols courts et moyens courriers, le risque de la hausse du coût de maintenance et la formation des pilotes sur ce nouveau type d’appareil.
La balle est dans le camp de la direction pour prouver la rentabilité face aux investisseurs qui estiment que la compagnie est désormais entrée dans une phase où ils sont en droit d’attendre d’elle des résultats positifs après dix ans de convalescence.
