Le cinquième constructeur automobile du Japon annonce pour 2021 la fin des véhicules diesel Honda en Europe . Par conséquent, elle mettra progressivement fin à la production des nouveaux modèles de véhicule au moteur thermique.

 Tout comme ses concurrents qui se sont progressivement retirés de ce marché, la firme japonaise a décidé de clarifier son intention d’investir davantage à la fabrication des véhicules propres. Cette annonce confirme et renforce la tendance des firmes automobiles qui tournent définitivement la page pour entrer dans l’ère des véhicules électriques.

Les véhicules diesel, réputés plus propres que les véhicules à essence en raison du faible rejet en CO2, étaient longtemps prisés sur le marché européen. De fait Honda avait fait de celui-ci l’un des principaux débouchés de ses modèles. Or depuis les scandales de falsifications des données chez Volkswagen révélées au grand jour par la presse en 2015, les autorités des pays concernés ont révisé les normes de contrôles au grand dam des fabricants.

Ainsi, le suedois Volvo a annoncé la fin du développement des moteurs diesel nouvelle génération. Volkswagen quant à lui, a décidé de réduire les recherches consacrées à ces derniers.

Les modèles des véhicules Honda les plus vendus sur le marché européen sont la berline compacte « CIVIC » et la SUV « HR-V », tous les deux diesels. Actuellement, ils sont produits dans les usines implantées en Grande Bretagne. Or Le constructeur cessera progressivement leur vente sur le marché européen d’ici 2021 avant de fermer les sites de production.

En 2021 la fin des véhicules diesel Honda en Europe oblige la firme nippone à remplacer 65% des voitures vendus dans le monde par des modèles électriques avant 2030 soit 2/3 des ventes mondiales. Dans cette optique, les modèles proposés en Europe seront 100% électriques à l’horizon 2025.  L’ambition de cesser la vente des véhicules diesel est la même pour le marché asiatique sans pour autant préciser les objectifs chiffrés.

Honda était le dernier a avoir pris le virage des véhicules propres parmi ses concurrents. Avant lui, Nissan et Toyota ont soit cessé la construction des modèles diesel, ou soit s’est retiré du marché européen pour ce type de model. Pour cause, les demandes ont baissé.

En effet, selon les statistiques de l’Association des Constructeurs Européens d’Automobiles, la part des véhicules diesel représentait encore 52% de l’ensemble des véhicules neufs vendus en 2015. Cette part ne représentait plus que 32% en 2018. Selon le cabinet de conseil Boston Consulting Group, elle devrait baisser jusqu’à 21% en 2025.
